Hello, spring! Welcome the season when our toes emerge from socks and have a spa experience (pedicure) before slipping into sandals which show off their newly polished glory. Foot love is always followed closely by shoe love as I recently rediscovered.
I was admiring my toes after my first pedicure of the season when I realized my sandals simply did not do them justice. Gleaming toes, moisturized heels fresh for spring! Old, sad, comfortable sandals. Hmm . . .
SO . . . a-shopping I did go.
It was hard to choose, but I decided on two pairs of black sandals and two in neutral colors. Two wedges and two block heels. How could I go wrong? I mean, I NEEDED these shoes!
Immediately I searched the Internet and ordered three pairs of Anne Klein sandals and one pair of Life Stride sandals. I know my size in these brands and I know I can depend on them to be comfortable. If I am branching out to an unknown (to me) brand I prefer to try them on in the store to be sure I have the right size since my feet are in between sizes. I’m never sure whether to size up or size down. It just depends on the shoe.
When they arrived I was IN LOVE! In truth, I am always in love with shoes. This love is rivaled only by my love for my child, my grandchild, my husband, and china patterns.
I wouldn’t ordinarily purchase so many at once (oh, sure!), but I culled through my shoes last year and again earlier this spring. After the cull all that remained on my shoe shelves were very casual, capri-worthy sandals and some sparkly, black-tie event types. There was not a pair to wear to anything between a picnic and a formal dance! And all those poor, empty, plastic shoe boxes looked so sad on my shoe shelves.

Wedges in My Shoe Love
The first pair of wedges are black AK Anne Klein Latasha Sport Stretch Wedges. They slide on with no fastener on the strap. The strap across the arch is elastic which allows my foot to easily slip in. The only thing that gives them away as “Sport” is the sole which is a soft rubberized non-slip sole. They are very comfortable in spite of the three-inch heel; the wedge makes the heel seem lower. They also come in denim/gold and white and bronze.
The Anne Klein Criss-Cross Footbed Wedge is called light brown, but the color is actually more of an antique gold. The strap across the toes is bright gold. The criss cross staps Velcro together on the side making the sandal very easy to fasten. These will look fantastic with my ivory silk slacks as well as my white linen ones. They will dress up or down. They are also available in black. The heel on these is two inches.
I didn’t want to just love wedges this summer, so I gave equal time to block heels. (I like to share the shoe love.)
Loving a Block Heel
I bought the Life Stride Chemistry 2 Peep Toe in Tender Taupe. It also comes in black and brown. This is a classic two-strap sandal which I think is flattering to most feet and most outfits. The color is pale tan so neutral that I can wear this pair with anything. The heel height is 2 1/2 inches, but like the wedges, the support of the block heel keeps the height comfortable. (OK! All you women who routinely wear 4″ heels, stop laughing! This blog is written by a woman of “a certain age” who has bouts of plantar fasciitis. I wore heels to work everyday for years, but no more. This can happen to you, too.)
The Anne Klein block heel pair that I liked is called Jackie. I bought black, but Jackie also comes in Light Gold and Light Cognac nubuck. The 2 1/2 inch stacked heel provides comfortable support. This is another classic style which can go with anything or anywhere.
Enough Shoe Love?
I am set for spring and summer and I have filled in the gaps in my shoe wardrobe and some of the empty boxes on my shoe shelves. I am happy!
Of course, if a good red pair of shoes comes along . . . and navy is always good . . . or perhaps a rich brown . . .
How are your recently-freed toes? Are they luxuriating in sandals worthy of their new polish? Are your favorite old sandals really what your toes deserve?
Shoe love is in the air!

P.P.S. Have you seen the inside lid of Anne Klein sandals? So true!
